Better than telling long stories about the IA, is showing some pictures of the event, the people and the places I’m spending some incredible time with: the core members of the Faculty I haven’t seen for a decade, this year’s invited artists, and the many students with whom I’ll share the experiences yet to come.
Hanging out with these guys is far more than I could ever expect.
I have this personal, nearly tribal vision over the ritual that envolves sitting at the table with someone. Since the most remote eras, sharing a meal means mutual acceptation, it is a gesture of trust and friendship, and being at the table with someone always brings this simbology to me, even when we’re in a big and loud 80 folks party as the Bistecão Ilustrado, our monthly illustrators meeting in São Paulo.
It is with this same mindset that I sit at the table with anyone.
To be accepted among the illustrators I follow and admire for decades, sharing the table with living legends of this business, have been tangling my feelings in ways I cannot put into words, but it is certainly fascinating to be with them, and especially to be seen as a friend and a partner, conquering their respect through a simple thing, which I did not see with the due importance: sketchbooks.
I have never noticed that this is my “body of work”, my recently explored terrain, the discovery, what is new on me.
That’s what they saw on my books, and allowed me to be seen as a peer among my personal heroes.
This is priceless.
I really have no means to describe what goes in my mind and my heart, and this is just as far as I can go with words.
Maybe some images on Flickr may get through a bit more clearly about what I have lived during this week, and will be tattooed forever in my memory.
